TEXT:
SUBJECT: Lord’s Divinity
Jesus Christ is a Man, as human as you and I, in body and soul. But He is not only human, but also fully Divine. The Nicene Creed calls Him "Very God of very God" and the Shorter Catechism has Him, the Father and the Spirit, "The same in essence, equal in power and glory".
The Lord’s Divinity is eternal: there was never a time He was not God and never will be. He was God before the Incarnation; at His birth, His Father commanded, "Let all the angels of God worship Him". In life, He called Himself Divine and accepted the worship of men. He was God on the cross, God in the Tomb, God in the Resurrection, God in the Ascension. His return will be the Second Coming of God!
This is the One we remember today at the Lord’s Table. This is the One who gave up His life to save us from our sin and misery. Jesus Christ is God and our God.
