TEXT:
SUBJECT: This do in remembrance of Me.
At the Lord’s Table we meet to remember what Christ has done for us. In recalling His work, however, we must not forget Who did it.
Jesus Christ is a Man—as human as you and I, in body and soul. But He’s not only a Man, He’s also God, equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit. He was God before the Incarnation; at His birth, the order was given, "Let all the angels of God worship Him". He was God on His mother’s lap, God in His father’s shop, God at His Bar Mitzvah, God in the Jordan River, God in the Wilderness, God in His public ministry, God before Pontius Pilate, God on the cross, God in the tomb, God out of the tomb, God before 500 witnesses, God on the cloud of Glory, and now—God at the Father’s Right Hand, and, at His return we’ll have, the Second Coming of God.
This is why His death satisfies the justice of heaven and why it communicates to us pardon, renewal, hope, and eternal life. Because it was not an ordinary Man who died on the cross—or even an exceptional Man—it was the GodMan who died for us!
It is He whom we remember at the Table this day.
